Ten years ago, I attended "Art in Bloom", the Saint Louis Art Museum's annual celebration of flowers and fine art.
At the time, I was studying to be a Master Gardener through the University of Missouri's extension program at the Missouri Botanical Garden. It was so inspiring to view dozens of works from the Museum's collection interpreted through floral design by the region's most talented florists.
It was also a defining moment in my career as a photographer and fine artist. Motivated by that exhibit, I launched the "Artist in Bloom" web site and began working on paintings from photos of flowers from my garden, the Missouri Botanical Garden, Tower Grove Park and Forest Park.
"The Bridal Bouquet" is an oil painting of white Peonies from my garden that I inherited when Bob and I bought the Victorian storefront. They were planted by my neighbor Robert Dielmann, an extraordinary artist and gardener. I learned the peonies were from his grandfather's farm in Creve Coeur. "Serenity" is an oil painting of the elegant Lotus blossoms found in front of the Piper Palm House at Tower Grove Park.
Several years ago, I teamed up with VIDA to launch a collection of wearable fashion accessories featuring these paintings. To celebrate 10 years, I have added a new design, "Artist's Palette" to the collection. The vibrant colors herald the coming of Spring.
Art lovers can shop for unique designs including this scarf, made from 100% modal, a luxuriously soft botanic silk fabric made out of European beechwood. Because of modal's botanic origin, it is particularly eco-friendly and its fineness is comparable to that of natural silk.
